This Tokoname kyūsu has stainless steel mesh on the inside of the spout and no lid. The lidless style teapot can help emphasize the aromatics of the tea while it's steeping.

Kyūsu means "teapot" in Japanese. It is a smaller style of teapot with a side handle to make it easy to pour with one hand. They are most commonly used for steeping green tea like Sencha and Gyokuro.

Tokoname (meaning "smooth soil") is a famous type of traditional Japanese pottery dating back to the 12th century. It is produced in Tokoname City in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. “Shudei" is a special red clay that is produced locally in the Tokoname area. Shades of green, blue, and other colors can be achieved by various blending techniques. Tokoname teapots come in a variety of sizes and shapes.
