Oriental Beauty | Oolong Tea
Available in 2 oz. quantities only.
Famous for its spiced honey aroma and dark plum sweetness in the cup. The oxidation gives it a darker, earthier character, but it remains light in body and has little astringency.
The unique aroma and flavor of Oriental Beauty comes the “green leaf hopper” (Jacobiasca Formosana), a tiny cicada that comes in the summer months to feast on the tea leaves. These little bites begin a series of chemical reactions within the plant and provide its distinguished characteristics. This tea was produced on 7/4/2020 from the Qing Xin Da Pa cultivar in the Pinglin district of New Taipei county Taiwan.
Oriental Beauty can also be known as “Bai Hao” (translation: “white, fine hair), which is more heavily oxidized than most wulong teas, but not all tea under the name Bai Hao will have that same honey/plum sweetness if there is not sufficient interaction with the green leaf hopper. You can also check out our Gui Fei, another Taiwanese tea that has been bitten by the green leaf hopper (and therefore shares that similar profile), but is much greener and shaped into the traditional semi-ball style.
