My favorite assam tea from TeaSource. This is my daily drink. I brew it strong at 5g for 6 minutes and add a splash of milk. It's malty but with a floral taste that reminds me of jasmine tea. Very little astringency.

This stuff is great. If you're looking to understand just how the East India Company, in conjunction with the Crown, came to rule the Known World, try a good 5 minute steep of this Lumberjack! You'll find the simplicity is more complex than you'd expected. 😉

This tea didn't blow me away, but it's a good middle-of-the-road Assam. My wife liked it better than I did, so if you're not into really robust teas this might be a good choice. A perfect everyday tea for drinking while you are doing other things.

Not ashamed to admit I tried this mainly because I love the new TeaSource terms of bespoke artwork on the 4oz bags, but I really ended up liking it! A bit malty, a teeny bit smokey, great as a straight cup of breakfast tea or as a base for chai!

This was one of those average teas to me. It's better than what you get in the grocery store but not as great as most of the teas from Tea Source. It was not a strong flavor but it also did not have astringency. The flavor was well rounded. i.e. nothing stood out to make it noticed, either great or poor. I would not choose it as a daily morning tea.

I love Assam tea. I start every morning with four strong cups. When I first brewed Lumberjack with my standard process of 4 minutes in a scaled pot, it turned out with light body and flavor. After some experimenting, I settled on 5 minutes. At this length some refined fruity flavor comes through, and with milk has a nice malty flavor. Brewing for 6 minutes adds body, but the flavors are less satisfying.

Classic Assam profile, but not as bold and easy on the palate. Not nearly as astringent as the strong breakfast teas I usually prefer from Assam, which encourages longer steeps. Foolproof on hectic mornings.

Tried this out during a sale and it’s a new favorite. Mellower than some assams; takes milk well and good at breakfast or for afternoon tea.

I found the Lumberjack Assam to be less astringent and more subtle than I anticipated. I have added it to our regular rotation.

I usually start my day with an assam or assam-based tea, so was eager to try the new Lumberjack Assam. It is a smooth tea with mild astringency. It does very well with the addition of a bit of milk and takes a second steep nicely. It is not as deeply malty or complex as some of the other Assam or Irish Breakfast teas that I have had, but I do enjoy it. I slightly prefer the Beekeeper Assam from Tea Source that has a more complex flavor.

Extremely smooth for a 2nd flush Assam. No astringency and on the lower caffeine side, more like Ceylon tea. I'm using it for blending.

First impression in the cup is the aroma of ripe plum, freshly cut maple wood, alfalfa hay, and malted grain. The taste is lightly earthy with a bit of freshly cut maple and malt. There is bit of brightness at the end but it only adds to the complexity. Although not as complex as some the more malty assams this is very satisfying.

This was one on which we took a chance, having never heard of it before. But we think it's going to be one of the standard ones we keep on hand. It is strong flavored while being mellow and friendly. It has been especially comforting on mornings when we woke up to fresh snow.

This is one of my new favorites. Has a strong but mellow flavor, a good option with milk or cream for breakfast or brunch sipping.

I liked this tea so much the first time I tried it that I ordered a pound. It is as described by Tea Source. It's hearty and tasty. It goes particularly well with pancakes so we've taken to calling it Flapjack Tea.

Lumberjack Assam 2nd Flush | Black Tea

This Assam is delicious in the morning and throughout the day. I brewed the leaves up to four times and it was still great. I'm glad that I purchased multiple bags.

Lumberjack Assam 2nd Flush | Black Tea

Smells delicious and makes for an appealing dark cup but I expected a stronger, maltier taste. Not that I was expecting the astringency of a lumberjack after a day's work but it fell flat on my palate.
